Anne Smith | Principal | Kernel
CHIEF STORYTELLER
Anne Smith is the Principal of Kernel Communications (Kernel).
Prior to launching Kernel in July of 2019, Anne was one of three Principals of Evolution Communications Agency.
As the Principal (and Chief Storyteller) for a communications agency, Anne is involved in the day to day management of the agency and its projects, as well as the development of new business through networking, the forming of strategic partnerships, grant writing, and responding to requests for proposals.
Anne’s particular passion is developing messages for diverse stakeholder groups, including the Latinx community. Once resonant messaging is established, Anne relishes in strategically exploring the communications and outreach tactics that will impact the desired audience.
Kernel’s client list includes Connect for Health Colorado, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA), Tri-County Health Department, Clinica Tepeyac, and COLOR.
Anne served six years on Mayor Michael Hancock’s Denver Latino Commission, and another six as Secretary on the Board of Directors for Servicios de La Raza, a 40-year old human services organization.
Anne has received awards from Denver Public Schools’ Multicultural Outreach Office and Servicios de La Raza for her commitment to the health of the Latino/a community in Colorado.
Prior to beginning her own communications firm in 2007, Anne served as Director of Business Development for 9News and the Entravision suite of Spanish language radio and television stations.
Social justice is at the core of Kernel’s philosophy, and this is reflected in Principal Anne Smith’s community service awards. The Golden Rule is never a bad model for business:
Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
Bring value and opportunity to clients, strategic partners, and vendors. LISTEN. To people in community, to clients, to stakeholders. There is tremendous value in listening.
Collaboration is often superior to competition. Creating teams of stakeholders that collaborate brings more resonance to the work.
Whenever possible, follow the evidence. Learn from the work of others. Build upon successes and learn from failures.
